Re: NBN application

DRQwerty, you have obviously never tried to speak to NBN Sales team with a problem ... save yourself a lot of time and just go and start beating your head against a brick wall, then ring another ISP, and refuse to pay Telstra any early cancellation fees ... I am in the same boat ... Antenna on roof, box on wall .. Telstra have already sent one tech out to put up an antenna ... he was pretty **bleep**ty when he saw the antenna and box already in place ...   after nearly 4 weeks of frustation, Telstra have put in a new order for me, as the old order was corrupt, and in the system trying to be cancelled, and guess what?  They are sending a technician out on 14 April!! Why, you ask, as well you might ... well Telstra NBN area don't know but they will try to find out ... in the mean time trying to find someone at Telstra who can tell the tech not to come out again. is head banging stuff ....

Go to one of the smaller ISP's who have their staff located in Australia, and they will connect without much fuss.  Really, you are wasting your time with Telstra if you have a problem.  If you have a current plan with them, just refuse to pay any early cancellation fees ...

I am thinking of replacing the T gateway too as this divices really sucks and can't provide the speed as promised by Telstra. When i move my PC upstairs which is less than 15 meters, the speed drops to 2-10mbps, but my speed is supposed to 50mbps. Really disappointted about this device. All i need to know which router is compatiable with NBN, should i buy a modern router or just wifi routher? I've seen lots of good comments on Netgear R7000 and D7000. D7000 is definately NBN ready, but how about the Wifi Router  D7000? Does anyone know it?

Firstly check servicestatus.telstra.com and see if there is a listed outage. If not, contact bigpond NBN tech support and they'll take a look at it

SOS1, if you are going to connect to the NBN you don't need a port.

telstra NBN/ADSL Router/modem

Hi, I purchased a Telstra Gateway Max TG799 ($216), for my NBN at home. What has rocked up is a Telstra Gateway Max in a green box with ADSL written all over it. I then saw on google/ebay that people are selling the same looking router/modem but comes in a redish box with NBN written on the box. The 2 modems and everything look identical and looking on telstra's site the cost the same and look the same etc, but I notice that 'NBN' one says 'Cable 3.0 and the 'ADSL' one says 'ADSL/ADSL2+/VDSL/VDSL2+'. I called telstra and after a half hour wait talked to the lady and she said it won't matter but I really do not wish to open it if its not going to work.

Any idea if there is a difference or does telstra just package them differently?

Thanks

The ADSL and NBN ones are the same devices.

The Cable one is a different model.

They have a lot of their devices in all sorts of different coloured boxes, so as long as it is the TG799 then it would be the right one for all standard NBN connections and for ADSL connections...

Transferring Ultimate cable to NBN

Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone can shed any light on this. Due to the NBN rollout, I will need to change to NBN very soon. Currently I am on cable ultimate with Telstra and a little perplexed to why I will need to pay an additional $30 per month on top of the NBN plan (which is also about $10 pmth more) to achieve the EXACT same speeds as I get on cable ultimate now (100mbps)??

I want to stay with Telstra, I also have the platinum package multi room Foxtel via Telstra (which lets face it, I don't really need but just like to have) but I have to say, after looking around, there are several Tier 5 plans out there for a lot less. I would have thought Telstra would look after existing customers during the NBN upgrades but I'm feeling like it will cost me a whole lot more each month to stay with Telstra for the same speeds as I get now. Are there offers available for existing customers to switch to NBN and stay with Telstra on similar packages that I maybe don't know about?

NBN Captive Portal Syndrome

Greetings fellow Captives

After several weeks of suffering without internet, hours and hours on the phone, several non-solution suggestions attempted, mulitple reboots and modem factory resets over the phone within a series of technical help (expert) areas within I am STILL experiencing Captive Portal.  A techicial came yesterday to finally resolve the issue.   Guess what he left and it is STILL not resolved, stating someone else will need to look at this!   This is now the Captive Portal Syndrome!

Has anyone in Telstra technical or administrative support been trained on how to actually fix this issue.   Forums indicate a significant lack of knowledge and experience in this area within Telstra.  Some say it takes minutes to fix others months, new modems, account settings, log on id's and MAC addressess!    An extremely frustrating situation to be in to say the least.

Oh I am hold once again!  Wait, now I have been escalated to someone else!   Sorry it has now been refered to another team, we'll let you know as soon as possible.  Sorry no time frame available at this time.  It is suspected to be a fault with the NB network system.  No end in sight.  Lucky me - us!

Stay tuned for Dr Phil's episodes on "The Torment of Capitve Portal Syndrome" and "Trying To Escape A Captive Portal" a never ending story!

You definetly need to keep a sense of humour with this issue.

Re: Technicolor TG797n v3 - connecting network printer

Hi Shelley,

I received a TG797n V3 just over 12 months ago and was able to connect it to my old HP laser printer via the USB port on the side (i.e the TG797 acting as a network printer server).  It worked very well.  I used the instructions that were given here ...

https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Modems-Hardware/Technicolor-TG797n-v3-connecting-network-printer/m-p/137342

... but as per that thread, the document has been removed and the replies have been evasive at best.  Our printing stopped working and now I have a new PC and can no longer set it up for network printing.  Did Telstra remotely change something in our modems (without telling us) that removed this capability?

Saying that Ethernet connection is the way to go is not a useful reply unless you think we are all going to go out and buy new printers and throw the old ones away.  In my case, it did work and there has been no change to the modem or printer hardware  yet things get worse ...

Very frustrating ...
