Re: Dynamic IP not working on Telstra NBN

Getting assigned a new IP on reboot is not guranteed as it has to do with how much contention there is in the block of IP addresses in the pool, however the longer you leave the modem off, the higher the chance it will jump

Satellite NBN

We have had no NBN satellite coverage for 2+ days. This follows 3-4 weeks off air earlier in the year. Whats the problem this time around Alstonville Northern NSW?

NBN application

Recently jumped ship from Iinet to Telstra due to the Basslink issue from Tas - Vic...

I am wanting to know why it is necessary to have someone come to my property to "install" anything when I have already had working NBN at my location.

All I want is the Telstra modem and I am ready to go.

Someone explain please.

Re: NBN application

If it is FTTP you should be able to do a SIK if the NBN NTD is already activated and working.

If it is FTTN there might be some other complication in the change over process that might be requiring a visit in that specific case.

If it is Fixed Wireless I am pretty sure it should be the same as FTTP and once the NTD is activated it should be good to go.

Re: NBN application

Not familiar with 'FTTN' and 'FTTP'.

If IInet were able to enable my serivce, why can't Telstra do the same?

Obviously I had NBN contracted technician come around, but that was only to install the indoor NBN modem.

I just don't get it... There were multiple people on the Whirlpool forums stating that they left IINET and the same day had NBN with another ISP (Incl. Telstra).

Re: NBN application

What frustrated me even more was I applied in-store last Thursday and for some reason, someone cancelled my application... I went and asked in the store and they could give me no indication as to why, there weren't even any notes left against the application.

So if anyone could assist in speeding this up, it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: NBN application

FTTN is Fibre to the Node, for that you will have just an old copper port in the wall as it run over the old copper infrastructure.

FTTP is Fibre to the Premise and for that you will have a box on both the inside and outside of the house.

If you have the white box inside the house (what they call an NTD), then they should be able to activate it without any issue and it should be up and running within 24 hours really...

Unless they were trying to port over your phone number and for some reason the port request was rejected by iiNet... either way in all honesty, if you did it in a store they would have likely just done a form to get someone else to do it (because it is quicker and easier for the store staff) which can in itself delay the process significantly.

As this is a public forum rather than a Telstra contact method, I would suggest calling the NBN sales team on 1800 993 728 (8am-9pm AEDT) and seeing if they can get it done with you over the phone, as they should be the ones to process the order for you and as such can actually go over details and options such as the option of Self Installation (where they just send the modem for you to install yourself)

NBN availability..

Hi

I have been informed that on the 30th March 2016, my slow outdated ADSL service will be temporally turned off  for maintenance to be carried out. Oh joy I;m so glad that my slow outdated ADSL service is getting an upgrade rather than gaining access to the new high speed NBN service like the rest of the country + some areas of the outback + aboriginal communities, It seems I am in a location that is'nt of priority or on a politicians look good venture. Its ironic that less than 500mtrs from my location  girraween NT 0835 & surrounding areas have NBN !! GO FIGURE, My question rather than spend money upgrading ADSL why not install NBN .

Re: NBN availability..

Telstra still have to maintain the current network until NBN Co take them over for the NBN... most of the time the maintenance work is work that is required to keep it running rather than any sort of real upgrade work... NBN Co and the Gov. decide where NBN gets rolled out, Telstra just keep the copper going until it is taken over.

Just for an example of the way it is working out, our neighbours at our old house had NBN Fixed Wireless (In a trial zone back before 2010) but we couldn't because we were in a different rollout zone... So yeah, the process is a bit messed up but it is what it is... typical government nonsense.

Re: Provisioning NBN connection

SOLVED THIS ONE MYSELF WITH THE HELP OF A LOVELY LADY IN TASMANIA,AND A GREAT GUY IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA, THANKYOU GUYS.

Too much data consumed

Can anybody assist in explaining why my NBN data usage has somehow skyrocketed; 50GB usage one day, and 25GB the following day?!

I have 100GB limit per month, and don't ever come close to half of that limit. The past two days (22/3/16 and 23/3/16) have been the first two days in my billing period and 75GB has been consumed. I haven't had any cause to use the Internet more than usual.

I am confused?

Re: Too much data consumed

There can be many reasons for a data usage spike. E.g

1. Someone is leeching your internet connection/connected to your wireless network. You can check this by going to 10.0.0.138 and checking to see if there are any wireless devices that are not yours

2. Potential malware infection. Your run of the mill Antivirus software, no matter the brand, does not give you 100% protection and most infections these days are not Viral and AV software doesn't pick them up

3. Possible Telstra system glitch

4. Streaming HD Media can chew through usage very quickly, seeding torrents as well

NBN order stuck in cancellation

Hi there,

About 4 months ago I moved over to the NBN. My service was working and things were going fine.

Then, Telstra inexplicably cancelled my order because I missed a letter sent to me and a phone call. They didn't go out of their way to contact me to make sure I wanted to cancel my order, despite the fact I was paying for it.

So, I called up to reinstate my order. They told me it was 'stuck in cancellation'.

So far, it has been stuck in cancellation for about a month now. I'm told that it's been escalated to the technical team, but that was two weeks ago and I'm imaging this will continue until I get sick of having no internet and end up cancelling my order (for reals this time).

Has anyone else had this problem?

NBN (FTTB) username and password for BYO Modems

Hi All

Got moved over Telstra NBN (FTTB) this morning all good awesome experience and speeds!

My question is where can I get my username and password for the connection? I want to use a BYO modem and need the info

The TG799AC Gateway Max that Telstra sent me seems to be preprogrammed with username/password which I didnt receive in any documentation.

Looking at the admin console of the modem I can see the following under PPP Credential setting

Username: newdsluser@bigpond.com

Password: *********

So how would i find out the password? (The username is obviously not the same as ADSL as that was my bigpond username which was unique)

cheers

david

Re: NBN (FTTB) username and password for BYO Modems

Ok first thing I have found out through my average google skills

Telstra use IPoE for NBN internet connections I think this means no username and password is used is this correct?

So any NBN VDSL2 modem I plug in will just work?

Re: NBN (FTTB) username and password for BYO Modems

Re: Too much data consumed

1. I have checked my wireless network. The only devices connected are my own. No one is leeching my internet.

2. There is no potential infection. The only devices connected to my network are Apple; Apple iPad, Apple iMac, iPhone's.

3. It possibly is a Telstra glitch.

4. I haven't streamed much HD media at all over the past 2 or 3 days; besides looking through Facebook and checking emails etc when I've been at home, other than that I have been working. As I said, I've used the Internet no more than usual, and I've never even come close to consuming this much data over such a short time... 76GB in 2-3 days. I still have 29 days remaining, with only 23 GB left!

Re: NBN (FTTB) username and password for BYO Modems

IPoE meaning that I dont need a username or password to connect.

Plugged a netgear nighthawk in, it autoconfigured and connected straightaway woohoo

It is a common misconception that Apple products are not able to get infected
