Just phoned Telstra to connect to the NBN as it is now available in my area. After many questions I was finally told I would need a Professional installation by a Techician at a cost to me of $240, because I had a back to base security alarm. As the connection is FTTN I asked why I would need a tech to come out, she said that I need one "just to check everything is working". When I asked what happens if the b to b alarm doesn't work I was told I what have to get my own alarm tech to fix it! So my question then was, well why do I need to pay $240 for a Telstra tech if he is not going to fix anything. I was then told he would install the modem by plugging it into power! I then said I have a Telstra NBN modem which was supplied when the previous one (ADSL) failed in April. My question is why do I have to pay $240 to have someone to come out just to look at what I have connected but not to fix anything if its not working. That seems a bit like a money grab to me. I think I'll connect with another company!
