I don't believe that reconnecting the ethernet cable multiple times is normal as I have not heard of a similar issue. I would agree that there seems to be an issue with the network card and the modems that we supply. Have you checked that the network drivers for your computer are up to date as well as using a different port on the modem and/or a different Ethernet cable?
Our NBN customers can use a BYO NBN Ready modem if they choose, except for when the phone service is provisioned via the modem. In this scenario, you would configure the Telstra Gateway to be in Bridged Mode & disable Wi-Fi and connect your BYO router to the provided gateway.
Alternatively, if your phone service is provisioned via the Uni-V port, you will not need the Telstra Gateway to utilise the phone.
