If you are wanting to disconnect, as you say you want Telstra to let you go, then I would suggest calling 132200 and say "Disconnection" between 9am and 9pm and you will get a team in Adelaide who are really helpful and may be able to explain the situation better for you and will also be able to go over all your options including the options regarding disconnection from Telstra.
