In Far North Queensland we have cyclones most summers. During this period of time power can be out for some days.
In my situation I have provided a sinewave inverter generator to run my house. This has provided me with power to run my house including communications.
However with the NBN and the wonderful FTTN that we have been forced to accept, there units are powered by electricity that comes from the Ergon power poles that are usually without power during this period so no communications.
Under the POTS system we used to have a working phone from the exchange.
Now I do have a mobile but the mobile towers are only there until the batteries run down.
I can probably sort somethinh out.
However, I have a mother who is 88 and depends on her phone to contact me in emergencies and we have put in a system that dials me on my mobile if she presses a button on a necklace that she wears.
She is also in a FTTN area.
What suggestions can Telstra offer?
