This appointment is also done to change over your wiring in the house so that your existing phone ports can be used for a Home Phone service (otherwise you can only plug a phone into the modem) - or if you've got a range of third party products or services that mean that a self installation isn't possible - like back to base alarm services for example.

Any chance anything like this applies in your case?
