FTTN means you have a node placed closer, and the node is connected to the exchange with fibre, meaning the node gets the full power of the fibre and it is just that last bit that is on copper.

so something like;
(exchange)===fibre====[node]-copper-{house}

Distance from the node is still a factor, but they have said they are putting nodes close enough that even worst case you should still be able to sustain 25Mbps, which from a 4KM ADSL should still be quite a significant jump. If you are lucky enough for the node to be closer it is possible to get 100/40 speeds on FTTN as well.
