Working through the process before connecting FTTP I have downloaded the Telstra NBN Equipment Template here:

A note on the Connection Box template states it should be positioned "close to a phone point". I don't understand why this is a requirement because I'm under the impression that some time after the system is activated the landline and ADSL is to be deactivated. Also, the self-install video on the website does not mention using the phone point.
Appreciate an explanation because if there is a requirement for the phone point it does restrict my choice of location for the equipment.
