Porting UNI-V + Data service to Telstra is EXPENSIVE

I was thinking of switching my NBN service (100/40 with UNI-V connected landline and battery backup in the NBN box) from another provider to Telstra on the $99 offer.

To keep the UNI-V port landline service with Telstra, I will be slapped a $240 charge for a technician to come replace my battery (which I replaced myself after the NBN provided one died), to plug in my phone and install the modem.

The only other option given to me is to go on VOIP with Telstra.

There is no technical need for a Telstra Technician to come out to my place since I just want the same working set up I have now, just that with Telstra as the RSP.

In the end I told the consultant to ignore the enquiry.

Why is it so hard and expensive for UNI-V service port? It is a standard offering by NBN RSPs. I like my landline to keep working even when there is a blackout which has happened a few times. My cordless phone is one of those from Panasonic that is blackout ready/battery backup.

I am still interested in coming over to Telstra but I am getting 'put off' by the whole experience.
